Meet Our Newest Employees – May 2016

ZMac Andy and Ruth

As ZMac continues to grow, we welcome our newest employees, Andy and Ruth! Andy and Ruth join our sales department in our Racine office. Help us welcome them both!

[ZMac Transportation Solutions] ZMac: Hi Andy! Hi Ruth! As our newest employees, we’d like to welcome you to the team and introduce you to everyone. Let’s start with an easy question: what’s the best vacation you’ve been on?
[Andy Popp] AP: The best vacation I’ve ever been on was a trip to Mexico for 10 days with 7 of my best friends and their spouses.
ZMac: That sounds like fun! Where in Mexico did you vacation?
AP: It definitely was fun. The first time we all went, we stayed at a resort in Cancún for a destination wedding. Since then, it’s become a biennial trip and we stay at the same resort each trip.
ZMac: That’s a fun tradition to have. Do you guys do anything special each time you go?
AP: Yes and no. We always golf, swim with dolphins, jet ski, and have great meals on each vacation, but we occasionally mix it up. None of us would miss this trip for the world.
[Ruth Sciano] RS: The best vacation I’ve been on was when I was 17. I spent the summer working at my grandpa’s plant nursery in Encino, California. That was the year the Summer Olympics were in Los Angeles. As luck would have it, I sat atop the nursery and watched the torch go by on Encino Blvd. I went to the exhibition game for baseball, the semifinals for tennis, and the finals for soccer.
ZMac: That sounds like an unforgettable summer!
RS: Oh, it definitely was. I was only 17 years old, but the people I met and all of the Olympic events I was able to attend… no words can accurately describe the greatness that I experienced that summer. I still tell stories about working in California.
AP: Seeing that exhibition game for baseball would’ve been great. I think some of those players ended up playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, too. You guys don’t know this yet, but watching the Cardinals play at Busch Stadium is my happy place.
ZMac: You mean you’re not locked in the office battle of Brewers vs. Cubs?
AP: Nope. I’ve always loved baseball, but I cheer for the Cardinals. Nothing is better than being at the stadium with the sun shining, eating a brat, and enjoying a good game of baseball.
RS: My happy place has more to do with the people I’m with. I’m happiest when I’m with my friends and we’re all safe, smiling, and having a great time. It can be at home or out somewhere. The location doesn’t matter; it’s the people.
ZMac: What was your favorite TV show growing up?
AP: I was hooked on “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.”
ZMac: “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air!” I’d forgotten about that show. However, I think I could probably recite the lyrics to the theme song right now.
AP: Me too! I would watch reruns everyday after school. I now own the entire series on DVD and I’ve been known to watch them occasionally when the mood strikes.
RS: I went more of the Disney route. Even now, I like watching Disney.
ZMac: I could see that. When I think of childhood, I often think of classic Disney movies. Did you have a favorite?
RS: No, I really just like all Disney movies. Each movie has its own unique story and characters that I appreciate.
ZMac: What was the last movie you watched at home or in the theaters?
RS: Unfortunately, not a Disney movie. The last movie I watched was “Saving Private Ryan” at home. I’m old-fashioned and buy [and watch] DVDs all the time.
AP: The last movie I watched was “Hear of the Sea.” It was really interesting. It told the story of how Herman Melville came up with the idea to write “Moby Dick.” I’m a bit of a movie freak. I watch a lot of movies.
ZMac: What’s something that people would be surprised to know about you?
RS: Hm… I suppose people would be surprised to know that I was nearly 15 lbs. when I was born. Considering I’m quite petite, it’s a bit shocking.
AP: Well, I was going to tell you that most people find it surprising that I hate popcorn. Like, well and truly detest popcorn. Ironically, I’ll only eat the buttered popcorn Jelly Belly jellybean. But after hearing Ruth’s surprise fact, I feel like mine pales in comparison.
ZMac: Both were great tidbits of information and equally surprising! Thanks for letting us get to know you both and welcome to #TeamZMac!
